How to choose a toilet cistern

A toilet cistern is an essential component for both wall-hung and floor-standing toilets. The choice depends on installation type, available space, and bathroom design.

Types of cisterns

Concealed cisterns: installed inside the wall for a clean and modern look
Exposed cisterns: visible solutions for easier installation and maintenance
Back-to-wall cisterns: ideal for a compact and streamlined bathroom design

Installation and compatibility

Cisterns must always be compatible with the chosen toilet system. Concealed solutions are the most common in modern bathrooms, improving aesthetics and saving space.

FAQ

What is the structural difference between a low-level (a zaino) toilet cistern and a close-coupled (monoblocco) one?

A low-level cistern is installed on the wall just above the toilet and connected via a visible external flush pipe. A close-coupled cistern, on the other hand, sits and bolts directly onto the rear shelf of the ceramic bowl, creating a single, compact unit.
Concealed cisterns are designed to be fully serviceable through the external flush plate. Removing the plate provides direct access to the internal valves, allowing maintenance or replacement of parts without breaking the wall.
Yes, modern cisterns paired with Azzurra toilets allow you to calibrate the internal float valves. To make the Water Saving patent work effectively, it is essential to set the full flush to 3 liters and the partial flush to 2.7 liters, preventing unnecessary water waste.
